Kai Resilient Neigbourhoods

Kai West’s regional approach to kai resilience and sovereignty brings communities together through Kai Conversation events across West Auckland. These conversations explore local insights, data, and lived experiences, from the past and present, to uncover key actions and foster local leadership, paving the way for a more connected, accessible, and nourishing food future.

So far, Kai Conversation events were held in seven locations including Henderson, Te Atatū Peninsula, Swanson - Rānui, Piha - Karekare, Massey - West Harbour, New Lynn and Glenavon. Ideas and initiatives emerging from these conversations focus on bringing communities together through kai, including the development of kai hubs, pop-up markets, community gardens, composting projects, cooking initiatives, kai upcycling, and waste reduction strategies, all working toward a vibrant, interconnected food network for West Auckland.

Emerging community leaders and champions from across West Auckland are coming together as the Kai Resilient Neighbourhoods Network of Action. The network provides a platform to share knowledge, strengthen connections, and support one another while expanding community outreach and building resilience through kai.
